Last weekend Ian Rowland took part in the Fellsman – a 60 mile, high level event, over hard rugged moorland, climbing to over 11,000 feet. The route takes the entrants up Inglebrough, down to the Hill Inn and up Whernside (two of the famous Yorkshire Dales Three Peaks Walk). From the summit of Whernside the route drops down into Kingsdale then up over Gragareth and Great Coum and down into the picturesque Dales village of Dent. More climbs are taken in along the way with the final downhill into the village of Grassington to cross the river Wharfe and the finish at the Upper Wharfedale County Secondary School, Threshfield.
Ian finished 31st out of 297 finishers (and a significant number of retirals along the way) with a time of 14 hours 20 minutes. Well done Ian. Saturday’s Loch Leven Half Marathon saw the sun smiling down on the competitors – pity about that wind though! Richard Taylor came in 34th overall with a time of 1:25:44, Rhona Anderson finished in 1:30:32, taking the prize for 2nd over 40 female and Brian posted another PB with 1:36:50. Steve Pattison finished in 1:41:52, Anne Hay in 1:43:38 and Mary Pattison 2:05:54. Well done everyone.
